Event Format: Women's ice hockey tournament is a competition between 8 national teams and the competition includes two preliminary groups, quarterfinals, classification matches for position no. 5-8, semifinals, Bronze medal match and Gold medal match. In the two preliminary groups with four teams in each group every team plays against all others in the group. The two winners of the groups advance directly to the semifinals and the number two and three teams in the groups play two quarterfinals for the semifinals. The Olympic champions is the team winning the Gold medal match.
