About the numbers: The composition of nations by continent and their subregions is based on UN's 'macro geographical (continental) regions', which can be found here. |
|
By clicking on a continent you will receive information on the number of medals obtained by each region on the continent. The sum of medals won by each region will not always equal the total number of medals listed for the continent because there were joined teams in the first olympic games with athletes from different nations, regions and continents winning medals together. If the athletes from these teams were from the same continent then the medal is counted for the continent but is not counted for any particular region - therefore the number of continent medals will sometimes differ from the sum of medals won by each region on the particular continent. For a list of all medals won by joint teams go here. |
