Format: The format for the rugby sevens tournament will include a preliminary pool stage followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, finals and placings matches. In the preliminary phase the 12 participating teams are split into three pools of four in a round robin format with each team playing every other team in their group. The top two teams in each pool and de two best no. three advance to the quarterfinals. The winners of the quarterfinal matches will proceed to the semifinals and the losers to placings matches 5th-8th.
