Øvelsesformat: First step in the gymnastics competition was the team competition/qualifying round in which all entrants performed both compulsory and optional exercises on all apparatuses. The 36 highest scoring gymnasts qualified to the individual all-round final. No more than three gymnasts from any country could advance to the final. In the final the gymnasts performed optional exercises on all apparatus. The final scoring for each gymnast was the sum of the points scored in the final and half the points scored in the qualifying round.
