Format: In the pursuit race the starting order was based on the result of the sprint competition held earlier in the event programme. The winner of the sprint competition started out first with the remaining biathletes in pursuit. Each biathlete in pursuit had to wait for a time equal to the time they had finished behind in the sprint competition before starting the race. There were four shooting stages in the race, the first and third in a prone position and the second and fourth in a standing position. For each missed target the biathlete had to ski a 150-meter penalty loop immediately after shooting. The first athlete to pass the finishing line was the Olympic gold medal winner.
