Olympic event format at the 2016 Olympic Games - Shooting Format: Athletes competed in three positions (prone, kneeling, standing) in a qualification round and the final, shooting distance 50 m. The top eight shooters in the qualification advanced to the final, where the athletes started from scratch, as the points in the qualification was not counting. The final included an elimination stage with the lowest scoring athlete eliminated after each shooting round, ending up with two athletes competing for the Gold Medal.
