Format: Short track skaters competed in heats on a 111 m oval ice track. The competition format included preliminary heats, quarterfinals, semifinals, B-final and A-final. Normally four skaters competed in each heat and the top two finishers advanced to the next round. The B-final determined the classification from place no. 5 to 8 and the A-final from place no. 1 to 4. The Olympic gold medal winner was the short track skater winning the A-final.
